Transformational EMDR Therapy in Didsbury, Alberta
It shows up in the middle of your day, in your relationships, in your body, and in the moments when you suddenly feel overwhelmed for reasons you can’t always explain. Maybe you’re constantly on edge, scanning for danger even when you know you’re safe. Maybe certain sounds, smells, or situations send your body into panic before your mind can catch up. Or maybe you’ve just learned to “shut down” or “dissassocaite” because feeling anything at all is too much.
You might tell yourself you’re overreacting, or that you “should be over it by now.” Others might also tell you this. How can something that happened in the past still feel like it happened yesterday no matter how much time passes? You are not weak —your nervous system is doing it’s best to protect you. Trauma changes the way you think, feel, and move through the world… often quietly, subtly, and in ways you don’t always notice until you’re exhausted and wondering why life feels so hard.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken. You’re human—and your body is responding to something overwhelming that you didn’t deserve. You don’t have to keep reliving what happened and you don’t even have to talk about it very much in EMDR therapy.
Trauma doesn’t just stay in the past —even when you desperately want it to.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals heal from emotional distress associated with traumatic or disturbing life experiences. Using a structured, eight-phase approach, EMDR helps the brain reprocess memories that may feel “stuck,” reducing their emotional intensity and shifting unhelpful beliefs connected to the past. Through bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sound—clients remain grounded in the present while safely engaging with difficult memories.

EMDR is a type of therapy that allows clients to process their trauma without necessarily needing to talk about it. It works on a more subconscious level to help reduce emotional intensity and reduce or eliminate trauma triggers. It promotes more positive and adaptive beliefs about yourself despite the traumatic experiences you have had.

EMDR can be highly effective for trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and other stress-related concerns, often leading to meaningful relief and long-lasting change.

Healing is absolutely possible. You can reclaim your sense of safety, reconnect with who you are, and step into a life that feels lighter, calmer, and more yours.
Birth trauma often results from emergency interventions. It can arise from feelings of helplessness or unexpected outcomes. Perceived neglect by medical staff can also be a factor, or fear for the baby's or parent's safety. These experiences can leave lasting emotional effects. This includes symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and flashbacks. Some experience avoidance of future pregnancies or medical settings.
I can help mothers, fathers, or birth partners heal from overwhelming, distressing, and traumatic experiences of the birthing process.
Birth Trauma
I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help the brain integrate these traumatic memories. This method reduces the emotional intensity of these memories and the distressing "charge" attached to them. This can help you develop new, more adaptive beliefs about yourself. It can also enhance the birth experience and restore a more peaceful connection with your birth story.
